McDonalds Sunday Morning Good Food Bad Service

We had breakfast at the Glasgow, KY McDonalds.

Great food - terrible service!

Sausage McMuffin was perfect.
Egg McMuffins perfect.
Hash browns could have been a little hotter but not bad.
Hot chocolate very good.
Coffee not worth the trouble.

Is it so odd that I like my coffee black with no sweetener? Apparently Vicki the counter person thinks so. She made mine with sugar and when I pointed out I didn't want sugar she rolled her eyes and gave me a look like I was nuts. Which I am but that is beside the point.

She had already lost points by stopping us in mid order to bark out, "here or to go". Then the old, "is that all?" when she thought we were done ordering.

Also I want to mention, in case in McDonald's people read this, "Hello" is a greeting. "Can I help someone" is not a greeting. Vicki also did not ask for repeat business or thank us for Sunday's business. If I was a mystery shopper she would of failed miserably.

To recap; food was worth the visit. Avoid Vicki's line when visiting Glasgow McDonalds.

Coltons Steakhouse where do I begin?

My youngest son, my wife and I thought we would eat at Coltons Steakhouse Saturday night. Apparently we were wrong.

My son ate dinner. My wife and I ate salads. A diet you ask?

NO! I respond.

We arrived at 6:15. They were very busy including a bus of volleyball players. They said the wait would be 25 minutes. They were right.

We were led through the bar to a table in the back. It was near a TV, so I was happy. Nice TV by the way.

We were given menus and our server was over fairly quickly. We knew what we wanted so when she asked for our drink orders we gave her our dinner wants too. This seemed to fluster her a little bit but she got over it.

My son ordered sirloin tips with french fries and a root beer. My wife ordered a 12 ounce prime rib with sweet potato and a garden salad with ranch dressing. I also ordered a 12 ounce prime rib but I wanted a loaded baked potato and a salad with 1000 Island dressing.

Our son's root beer appeared quickly brought by a male employee and our drinks were soon delivered by our server.

Our salads were brought out by our server. Two minutes later our dinners were set on the table. We mentioned we just got our salads and the guy that had the ribs and tips explained to us about the cooking procedures of a prime rib and why we should expect our salads and prime ribs at the same time.

I was happy to be informed, by the 2o year old, how a prime rib is prepared, since I have been cooking them longer than he has been alive. I still don't understand why they couldn't of waited to slice our pieces until we were done with out salads.

Then the fun began.

My prime rib looked like it had been sliced with a dull axe. So I asked to see the manager. By the time he came to our table my wife now had cut into hers and it was well done.

I asked the manager if he would be happy being served my piece and he said, "no". Then my wife told him hers was supposed to be medium rare, what did he think. He said it looked more done than that (paraphrasing). He offered to bring out two new pieces.

We asked, if they would be medium rare? He said this time of night everything is more well done. It was not yet 7 PM!

I know we live in a nice quiet town but that was ridiculous. You would of thought we ordered at midnight the way he talked.

We decided we didn't want well done prime rib so we decided on two 12 ounce sir loin steaks - medium rare.

Our son ate his dinner. He drank another root beer. He ordered desert. He ate half his desert.

Then our steaks arrived. Twenty five minutes later!

Needless to say they were NOT medium rare. My wife's was medium well and mine was well done. I have seen cinder blocks with more moisture than my sir loin.

I simply asked for the check. the server went to get it after apologizing. She came back and said there was no check.

I applaud the decision not to charge us for the meal but it was the managers responsilbity to deliver the news. He left the server to handle a situation which was not her fault in the slightest.

Things happen in restaurants, especially on busy nights. We understand. We have owned restaurants, we have managed restaurants. We like to eat in restaurants.

There is NO excuse for the manager not coming to our table when things were that bad.

We were there 90 minutes in total and never ate dinner.

We went across the street to McDonalds. My southern style chicken sandwich was fantastic. My fries were good. My caramel latte...perfect. If you haven't tried the new coffees, you need to.

My wife's quarter pounder with cheese was good, her fries were OK, her diet coke was cold.

Our son said he was full.

Next time I guess we will skip Coltons and go straight for the golden arches. It may not be prime rib but it was cooked well and the service was friendly.

That's all I really ask.

McDonalds Friday Night

I normally avoid McDonalds on Friday nights like the flu. It's parking lot is inhabited by thirty year old teenagers looking to capture the youth they fondly remember.

Last Friday was the exception. I was hungry and Wendy's takes too long and Burger King was two traffic lights away, so I ventured into the McDonalds parking lot. I figured drive through was the best bet so I took the outside lane and prepared to wait.

In seconds a voice asked for my order. She repeated and stated the amount and I drove forward. At the window a woman took my debit card and two seconds later returned it and asked me to drive forward. At the final window I knew I was going to have to wait but I was surprised.

My order was ready. It was handed to me and I asked if it was too late to get a receipt. "It's in the bag" she said, pleasantly. Then she thanked me for my business.

Wow! A polite fast food worker!

Since I was starving, I did like we all do, I started eating my fries. The were hot. fresh, and salted correctly. I sipped my ice tea. Cold, completely filled  and a straw was provided. I was liking this!

I arrived home and started in on my Big Mac. It was hot, plenty of lettuce, not too much sauce. It tasted great.

I can truthfully say; Friday night at McDonalds, in Glasgow, is worth the irritating adults behaving childish.

The experience was the best I have had at any fast food restaurant in years.

The drive through was faster than fast. The food was perfect. The service or quality was not spared to obtain speed.

I recommend the McDonalds on 31E in Glasgow, KY without qualification.

It is exactly what all other fast food restaurants are trying to be.

Glasgow Kentucky McDonalds ...my favorite

Fall is coming fast and I like it.
My grass doesn't grow as fast.
My air conditioner doesn't run as often.
My gas bill is still weeks away from it's Winter peak.

It's a good time to live in Glasgow Kentucky.

Sure there are other things that make Glasgow a good place to live. Low crime rate, low housing costs just to name a couple.

One of the other things I like about Glasgow is the McDonalds. I have lived all over the country and I have never seen a McDonalds like the one on 31E. The food is the same. The service is similar to other McDonalds. The building is standard.

The thing that sets our McDonalds apart are the people who hang out there on Fridays and Saturdays. Like most fast food they have their share of young adults and teenagers frequenting the restaurant. It's not them that I speak.

I am talking about the guys in their late twenties, thirties and I am afraid maybe even forties who hang out in the parking lot. One weekend they even had lawn chairs. Last weekend they had coolers with soft drinks.

Can you imagine?

Adults so cheap, they bring their own drinks, to use a business's parking lot for their meeting of town losers.

You may ask.... why I like this?

I like it for a simple reason. No matter how bad my week has been. Flat tires, broken lawn mowers, appliances quit working, whatever, I can drive by Glasgow McDonald at 10 PM on a Friday night and know my life isn't too bad.

I see grown men, standing around pickup trucks, drinking from cans kept cool in an ice chests, while they hoot and holler at 16 year old girls driving by.

In other words - the biggest losers you can imagine.

I know when I see this, my life is pretty good by comparison.

McDonalds Coffee

Last night I was at McDonalds and they said they were installing their new coffee bar. I have had the drinks at the Walmart location and they are very good.

I am near the bypass location more often so I am glad they finally made them available there too.

McDonalds in Glasgow, KY

I went into the McDonald's in Glasgow last night and had dinner. I ordered a Big Mac fries and a Diet Coke. My wife ordered a Quarter Pounder fries and Diet Coke and my youngest son had a Mighty Happy meal or some such a thing with a double cheeseburger, fries and a sprite.

My Big Mac was fresh hot and unlike most McDonald's Restaurants didn't have the appearance that it had been stepped on. The fries were hot and salted the way I like them. The drink I poured myself so it was perfect.

My wife said her Quarter Pounder was "good" and fries needed more salt but I suspect our fries were salted the same.

My son mostly played with the toy until his food was cold then gobbled down the double cheeseburger threw away the fries and took the Sprite with him.

Overall I would say the food was excellent.
The service was friendly and not hurried.
The counter area was cluttered but the dining room was clean and the rest rooms weren't dirty.

As far as fast food goes The Glasgow McDonald's is certainly above most.
